February 2017 Update

How is it already February 2017?  Mid-February at that!  I swear, it is getting harder and harder to carve out space to sit down and write out my thoughts on my blog these days.  Don’t get me wrong.  Life is full.  Full of wonderful things like digging into a training plan {finally!}, spending time with family and friends, and spending lots of time at my wonderfully fulfilling and equally exhausting job.

Yet, life is also full of uncertainty.  I feel as though I am beginning to sound a bit like a broken record, no? So, as my long-time followers know, we relocated to Kansas last summer.  Moving early to take advantage of a promotion turned out to be a really good thing.  My position challenges me every day and  I haven’t felt this fulfilled in a long time.

So, that brings me to the very scary and harsh reality that lies ahead of me.  The Army is moving us again this summer.  Yes, I knew that our time in Kansas would likely be a one-year stint but I was living in denial and/or didn’t want to admit that 1.) I like Kansas and 2.) I found a job that I could see myself in for my entire career.

Don’t get me wrong.  Our future location excites me!  And, I will share more on the new location once the orders are in my hands!  Yet, I will admit that I am pretty devastated to leave my job.  The thought of starting the job search all over again makes me want to cry.  Oh, but don’t worry, because I may just very well be out of a job thanks to the federal hiring freeze.  Yes, I can move away from federal service but it’s hard to constantly press restart on my career, especially in a new state, with new and different licensure requirements, and the list goes on and on.

Then, there is the house hunting and search for a great school district for my little one.  As a planner, I hate all of the unknowns at this point in the year.  Hopefully, things will become a little bit clearer in the months to come as I ramp up my obsessive search to find a new place to call home.

In the meantime, I am certainly taking out my frustrations on the pavement.  Right now, for some unknown reason {actually the reason is probably because running is the one thing that I have control over}, I am actually sticking to a training plan.  Yep, this hasn’t actually happened in years.  I am admitting that my heart hasn’t been committed to a training plan for a specific race in well over three years.  Yet, here I am, six weeks into a pretty serious plan and things are just clicking.  I almost didn’t want to type those words for fear of jinxing it.

I’m not surprised – running has always helped me come to terms with whatever crazy life happenings are going on…. So here we are again.

Next up, I’ll share what races I’m getting myself into and the training that I hope to take me back to where I left off in 2013.  It’s pretty nice to find a renewed passion for running and set some goals for myself.

How is 2017 shaping up for you?
